RENEE ARENDT
Photo Express

My inspiration comes from my family and friends. I've been married to Kelly for 16 years and we have 3 beautiful chilldren, Matthew (14), Liam (13), Kelani (4).

I have been scrapping for 13 years, since Liam was just a few months old. I saw an ad in a craft magazine for Fiskars scissors that showcased a few scrapbook pages and thought it would be a fun thing to do as gifts for my mom and mother-in-law. A small home-based folk art shop up the road from us was advertising memorybook supplies so I popped in to take a peek. I purchased a few magazines for inspiration (CK had just released it's first few issues), a set of pens, and a few sheets of patterned paper. I was hooked from the minute I laid out my first page! I've since been published in CK and Simple Scrapbooks a number of times, and I've attended a number of scrapbook conventions and trade shows, as well as CKU Vancouver.

I've been working at Photo Express in Maple Ridge for the last 7-1/2 years where I look forward to seeing the latest and greatest each week as new product comes into the store! I've also started digital scrapbooking and love the ease and speed of this new format.

I'm looking forward to teaching at this year's BC Crop for Kids, and can't wait to see lots of old friends, and make a lot of new ones :)

The digital industry started to boom and she found many great sites online to help her on her journey. Sandy has had the past experience of co-owing an Digital Scrapbooking site as well as being a design team member for Scrapbook-Bytes and digital designer/instructor at 3Scrapateers. She has taught beginner and advanced Digital courses locally and continues to teach from home and online. KAREN HAUGLAND
Close To My Heart

My Name is Karen Haugland. I began scrapbooking 11 years ago, when my first born was just a few months old. Several friends and I became instantly addicted! We have tried to meet weekly ever since to work on our scrapbooks. Over the years we have added new papercrafts to our regimen, and we now enjoy cardmaking and have a monthly card club. Over the ten years we have come across many product lines that we enjoyed using and always shared our sources with each other. Well, in the fall of 2007 one of our group showed me a Close to My Heart catalog. I knew immediately that it was more than just love. I became a consultant almost immediately and have never looked back. I enjoyed working with my up line, Nadene Jung, and learning how to teach classes and “Share the Love” as I call it.

My background has always been creative, I spent 10 years as a home textiles designer. But now that I am at home with my three children I find the scrapbooking, cardmaking and papercrafting industry fits me perfectly. I still get to be creative, I still meet lots of new people, I get to travel a little and a even make a bit of money on the side.

When Nadene asked me to teach with her at the 2008 BC Crop for Kids I immediately said yes! My middle son had just complete 10 months of treatment at BC Children’s Hospital for Neuroblastoma, a type of childhood cancer. During those 10 months we spent over 100 nights in hospital, Josh had over 45 blood or platelet transfusions, 6 rounds of chemo (each lasting 4 days), 2 major surgeries, 1 stem cell transplant (31 days in isolation) and finally 15 rounds of radiation. We know just how important BC Children’s hospital is to every family in BC. You never know when or if you will need it, but if you do, you will be surrounded by great people doing a very tough job. You will be grateful for every penny that goes into Children’s Hospital, and will do whatever possible to help them treat our provinces children. I am thrilled to say that our son is now in remission – HOORAY. BC Children’s Hospital and it’s phenomenal oncology department are the reason Josh is with us today.

Look forward to meeting you again at the 2010 BC Crop for Kids. Hope to see you in our class.

STEPHANIE HUNT
Bella Blvd

Ciao! Ciao! I'm Stephanie, also known as Bella! I'm the designer and owner of Bella Blvd, this fabulous little scrapbooking company located in the sweet little town of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. For as long as I can remember I have dreamt of designing scrapbooking products! It may sound quite odd to some people, but for those of you that scrapbook, you know it's a powerful addiction of bright fun patterns and embellishments that turn your memories into real life artwork. After my first walk through a scrapbooking store, the rest was history. I had to be a part of this exciting, happy and creative community. Some of my favorite things are turtle sundae ice cream, puppies, stripes and polka dots, Philadelphia cream cheese, my Mac computers, pasta, the color pink, traveling around the world, sour cream, being an auntie, scrapbooking, shopping, photography, text messaging, organizing and re-organizing and Japanese hibachi steakhouses.

So why "Bella Blvd"? I come from a very close-knit Italian family. My mother and her family were born in southern Italia. During college I jumped at the opportunity to study abroad in Florence for nearly five months. Walking through the cobblestone streets I heard, "Ciao bella!", and when trying to fall asleep at night I could hear "Ciao bella" echoing through the narrow roads! "Blvd" was the perfect addition, considering it is a street suffix, and I totally wanted the logo to be a street sign! Plus, it sounded sweet!

These are my passions: art, design, scrapbooking and new color palettes! It's like Christmas each time new collections are created and printed! Since establishing Bella Blvd, not a single day has felt like work. Of course there are the non-art-related tasks that I've had to learn that aren’t my favorite...like taxes! But it's all for the better good of my "baby" (as I like to call it), Bella Blvd! I only hope is that you love Bella as much as I do, and all the happiness that comes from the products!

JESSIE HURLEY
Cherish The Thought

I attended a home stamping party just over six years ago and was surprised at how this craft seemed to speak to my soul. I continued making cards, but added mini books to my repertoire. Now I have married the two as my current passion is to find everyday objects (such as mini Chinese steamers and jewelry boxes), and turn them into scrapbooks using interesting techniques I learned through cardmaking. Cherish the Thought is my canvas to showcase all the products and tools that I love. Most recently I was published in the 2009 Spring Edition of Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine.

RAYA LATHAM
I'm Impressed Paper Arts Ltd.

I have been crafting for as long as I can remember. Photos in my youth often have me covered with paint, and I don’t know how many photo essays, dioramas and papier-mâché projects I turned in to avoid book reports. One day, about 20 years ago, I was walking in West Edmonton Mall and this nice lady asked if I would like to see an embossing demo and so the addiction began.

In 2002, I bought I'm Impressed Paper Arts on Granville Island. Since then it’s tripled in size and I still don’t have enough room for all my stamps. I love what I do and I’m always striving to achieve that delicate balance between family and work.

My stamping style involves everything! Stamps are a tool that that can be used in clay, fabric and working with various mediums. Being a complete paper addict, I love to play with inks, paints, pencils, crayons, markers, powders, and sprays. I always end up with as much color on me as my cards, but there is something satisfying about having “inky fingers” at the end of the day.

SHARKA LEIGH
PaperCapers

Arts and crafts have been Sharka’s passion for as long as she can remember. In 1991 she tried decorative painting and was immediately hooked, over the next fifteen years creating a home based studio. Through the studio and various stores she has taught this craft to many people around the lower mainland. Her painted pieces have been sold at various locations including craft fairs and art shows. Delbrook Craft Fair was one of her annual favorites where people came back each year to collect her work.

Scrapbooking, card making and acrylic on canvas have more recently become Sharka’s “other passions”. She loves nothing better than to spend time creating original pieces, sharing them with her friends and students. Sharka now offers scrapbooking and card making workshops for all ages to share these passions.

Sharka believes in “giving back” and currently gets much satisfaction from volunteer work she does teaching painting and card making at a local senior’s center. During her childhood years, she spent a great deal of time at Children’s Hospital and feels BC Crop for Kids offers an excellent opportunity to give back to the facility that supported her.

CARI LOCKEN

Cari Locken lives in the lower mainland with her husband & three children. When she was growing up she loved playing piano, drawing & coloring, knitting, cross-stitching, and pretty much anything & everything to do with paper, markers and colored pencils. After graduating with a Masters in Music Cari started scrapbooking in 1997 just before she got married. She was a full time piano instructor but this hobby quickly became a favorite pastime and has developed into a passion. She loves creating layouts, cards and various projects that celebrate life, special events and everyday moments. Cari is a stay-at-home mom which gives her the opportunity to scrapbook during her “spare” moments. She is inspired by her family as well as magazines, clothing, unqiue shapes & designs, colors, and textures.
She is a designer for Canadian Scrapbooker magazine (and has been with them since they started in 2005). Cari also designs for Core’dinations Cardstock and Imaginisce. She teaches scrapbooking workshops through the area such as The Great Canadian Scrapbook Carnival, BC’s Creative Expo, BC Crop For Kids and some local scrapbook stores. You can visit Cari’s blog at http://my&mythoughts.blogspot.com/ to see more of her work.

MAKING MEMORIES WITH SCRAPBOOKING LADIES
Making Memories With Scrapbooking

Debbie Siu: Every since I was a young girl, stamps, stickers and any type of paper craft was something I enjoyed to do in any free time I had. Scrapbooking became more serious for me when I was attending university studying to become a teacher. I did my final teaching portfolio in a scrapbook and my passion for this hobby grew from there. I began to travel every year and couldn’t wait to get back from my trips to scrapbook them! This incredible craft led me to open “Making Memories with Scrapbooking” in 2001 and it has been an amazing journey and learning experience ever since. Today I am still teaching elementary school in Burnaby and continue to run the store with my amazing partners. Now that I am a mom of an active three year old, I enjoy scrapbooking so much more as her pictures are so special and it gives me chance to showcase her life in such a creative way.  As I tell all scrapbooking newbies, it’s the most wonderful and rewarding hobby as the scrapbooks we make are lifelong treasures that will be enjoyed by so many people for years and years.

Diana Pesa: Diana has a passion for taking photos of anything and anyone! She tends to go overboard when she snaps away with her camera. (she tends to take about 100 photos of one thing and even develops them all!!) This love of photography led her to scrapbooking, just over a decade ago. She wanted to find a way to showcase all her photos so she began scrapbooking after going to a home party. Then almost 9 years ago, she opened the store up with Debbie and hasn’t looked back! Diana loves to take photos of her 3 year old son and she tries to scrapbook the stacks and stacks of photos she takes!

Amari Yu: My first encounter with scrapbooking was at Making Memories with Scrapbooking! I stepped into the store in 2002 and just stood there in shock and excitement, oblivious to the customer whose path I was blocking. I died and gone to paper heaven. “Where have you been all my life and why haven’t I found you earlier?” I yelled out, arms stretched out, sparkling tears glistening down my face. (Okay, I probably giggled a lot while walking up and down the aisle while touching everything like a kid). I just feel in love with the fact that this is an art form that EVERYONE can do! It brings out the creativity out of everyone and everything! After that first encounter, I began to make Christmas cards only. I didn’t really do anything else. But then in Summer 2007 I came across the opportunity to work at the store! Throughout the next years I really learned a lot about small businesses, customer service and felt part of this incredible community! I am so honoured to be part of BC Crop for Kids (this is my first year!) and can’t wait to teach and learn from you all!

VALERIE MILLER

Valerie Miller is an elementary teacher in the Abbotsford School District. She started scrapbooking 10 years ago after the mother (and fellow Crop 4 Kids instructor!) of one of her students shared with her a scrapbook she made about her son's first days of school. Valerie has always been an avid collector of memories, so it wasn't a far stretch for her to start scrapbooking. Her four adult children, and two darling grandchildren, give her lots of inspiration.

Valerie enjoys scrapbook shopping and attending crops with all her scrapbooking pals, and can be seen every year as a volunteer at the big Photo Express crop each spring. When she's not teaching her adorable kindergarten kids, or scrapbooking, she loves working in her garden and travelling.

LEANNE PAYNE
Scrapbook Fanatic Retreats

So a little about me… well I’m an avid scrapbooker and papercrafter, I love photography and practically lived in the dark room during high school! I like to put a lot of ‘stuff’ onto my layouts and I tend to do a lot of distressing and aging on all my projects. I’ve been a crafty person all my life, but I think I found my niche when I fell into this lovely hobby about 6 years ago. My sister-in-law showed me a scrapbook she’d made for her daughter, and that was that… off to the craft store I went to pick up some glue, decorative scissors, and some cardstock and I was on my way! My style has evolved quite a bit since then.

I currently spend a lot of my time coordinating retreat weekends and looking for the next crop to attend… I’m truly a scrapbook fanatic! I’m lucky enough to have a wonderful husband who graciously supports me in this hobby. We have one insane cat, one crazy dog, and another cat, who’s… well, he’s just fat and we kind of like him that way. I can never have enough coffee, I love the sunshine and getting outdoors and firmly believe that ‘the most wasted of all days is one without laughter’.

See you at the crop!

BEV RUDANCE
The Scrapbook Room

Bev lives in beautiful Hope,Bc with her husband Mike. They have been married for 29 years and have two grown daughters. Bev has been busy creating since her grandmother gave her some cloth and notions when she was seven years old. She started scrapbooking about 20 years ago. I see this as a great way to be creative and preserve heritage for future generations.

I started my home based and mobile scrapbook store in April 2008. I really enjoying teaching and sharing scrapbook ideas with others. I have been published in Canadian Scrapbooker. This will be my second year teaching at BC Crop For Kids. Small photo ready albums and board books are a passion of mine. I teach workshops at crops, schools, and in my home. I believe what ever you do you should have fun doing it and scrapbooking is fun!

MARGO SMITH

Hi everyone! My name is Margo Smith, and I am a true scrapbooking addict!!

I live in beautiful Cowichan Bay BC, and am the only female in a very active home!

My husband Wade is a Navy Diver; Colten is 11 years old this summer; and Ryan is 7 this summer. My "day" job is teaching JK at a local private school, with 16 four year olds in our class!!

I started scrapbooking about 9 years ago, and it quickly became my all time favourite thing to do! I have always been "crafty", but scrapbooking is so much more than that, for me - it is a way to relive memories, while preserving them forever, and that rocks!! It is also the only "me" time that I get in my busy life!!

I would describe my scrapbooking style as fairly clean and linear - while still using tons of products, and right now my favourite products are stickles, nestabilities, and bling. I love using sketches as a base, and my favourite scrapping tool is definitely my clear ruler!!

I also love to make cards and altered items - perhaps even more than creating layouts!!

TANYA VERSTER
Photo Express

Hi everybody, my name is Tanya and I am very proud to be a part of the Photo Express team going on five years now and I am affectionately known in the store as “our favorite little foreigner”.

I am truly passionate about my craft and am a true believer in showing people that there is no such thing as “not being talented or crafty”. As an artist, scrapbooking has become more than just a hobby, it is another creative avenue for me and one that I am dedicated to; it absolutely takes up every “spare moment” of my day between work, being a wife and a mother. My goal is to help people find their own style and to show them that they can do it.

My all time favorite things to make are handmade books and altered crafts. You will very seldom leave my class without having paint or ink on your hands. I have a severe addiction to ribbon and I am never without my camera I am too afraid I will miss a precious life moment. My favorite scrapbooking must haves are my Weldbond glue, a sanding block, my crop-a-dile and QuicKutz tools.

I originally hail from South Africa and together with my wonderful husband of 15 years immigrated to beautiful BC in 1999. I have two beautiful girls Hannah (8) and Eden (6) they are my constant inspiration and my joy.

I am honored to be part of the Crop for Kids again this year and look forward to meeting you in my class.

DEBBY VISSER

I am an avid scrapper/crafter living in Chilliwack BC, with my husband who fully supports my scrapping hobby, and our 4 children; 1 girl and 3 boys. I am the worst morning person, drink too much coffee and love reality TV. Scrapbooking is my creative outlet and is very much a part of who I am. I enjoy capturing and documenting through pictures and pages the fun and not so fun moments in our lives that we might otherwise forget years down the road. I have been known to grab the camera before the first aid kit!! My favourite part of scrapbooking – besides the memories I document for my family – is sharing, teaching and learning. I have met so many wonderful people through this hobby that I have learned from; and in return been able to share with! I love teaching, and teach a wide variety of classes, from cards and pages to anything I think I can alter. I have been extremely fortunate to have my work featured in many print and online magazines, which the kids just love to see themselves in.

TAMARA WARNER

Tamara has had glue on her fingers for years but since 2000 it has been acid free. Her Gran and Mother have both been crafters and although she could never thread a sewing machine, the love of crafting has been part of her entire life for her and her sister. An appreciation of photos that help tell a story, the freedom to express ideas and being an ambassador to create handmade items, are what draws her to papercrafting. The social element of scrapbooking has had a hand in creating new friendships and provided an excuse to travel. If you were in her primary classroom you may have seen her students create their own individual scrapbooks. As a team member at Photo Express and former Quickutz Ambassador she truly enjoys helping others learn about techniques, products and shares her excitement in telling new crafters that it is ok, there is no formula, no right- no wrong in scrapbooking.

Her “go-to’s” are : Bazzil cardstock, anything Quickutz, Making Memories, American Crafts, Basic Grey, stamps and ink, punches and co-ordinating embellishments. Just don’t expect her to actually use anything from her old school Chatterbox collection. Style is a personal thing, hers is clean and simple most likely influenced by taking classes with Ali Edwards, Karen Russell, Becky Higgins, and Cathy Zielske. Scrapping for a cause is a wonderful way to give back to causes close to her. All of our work to bring health, love and peace for the children at BC Childrens Hospital is heartwarming. Participating in the BC Crop for Kids this year as a cropper and Instructor has her anxiously awaiting October.

ISABEL WOOD AKA IZZY
Pick of the Patch

I’ve been scrapbooking for 17 years (has it really been that long!) and my style has changed dramatically over the years as I learned new techniques and found “my personal style”. I paper scrap and digi scrap which has enabled me to try hybrid projects.

I love to travel the world! A lot of my inspirations come from my travels, I tend to focus on culture, architecture, scenery and local people with my photography. It is the colors and textures that come from the photos that help me create my pages and projects.

I'm the owner of Pick of the Patch, in Coquitlam, and have the pleasure of designing and teaching classes there as well. I've also been published in Canadian Scrapbooker magazine, Simple Scrapbooks, featured in the Vancouver Sun and have been a guest on TV’s Dotto Tech.

I am a member & organizer of The Scrapaholics, a wonderful local meetup group of avid scrappers! BC Crop for Kids is an organization our group enthusiastically supports.
